RAF Flight of The Navigator

On Tuesday 26 February, cadets from Flitwick Sqn were privileged to be visited by Group Captain Manwaring who delivered an inspiring presentation about his upcoming challenge to circumnavigate the globe in a light aircraft. At present, the world speed record for this challenge is 26 days, and the UK record 39 days. Gp Capt Manwaring plans to smash both of these and do it in just 18 days in his self built RV-7 aircraft which he has been building in his garden shed for the past 5 years! As part of the build, many modifications have had to be made to he Aircraft to prepare it for the journey including increasing the fuel capacity, and various aerodynamic improvements. These modifications will mean the aircraft can cross the Pacific Ocean (the largest ocean on the planet) stopping only twice. This remarkable challenge is in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund who provide support to Serving and former RAF personnel and their families in times of financial hardship, and other difficulties. The aim is to raise £100,000 by the end of the flight. To find out more, head over to the website http://www.raffotn.org.uk and follow the team on Facebook for all the latest updates!
